First Read Aloud of the Year

Read aloud is my favorite part of the day.  I love listening to the kids chuckle as I read or move to the edge of their seat as they anticipate what will happen next. Read aloud is such a great way to hook kids on reading!
As many fellow bloggers have done I thought I would post the read aloud I choose for the beginning of the year. This is one of my favorite books and was my #1 choice as a child.

The BFG
By Roald Dahl

This hilarious book is perfect for beginning of the year 4th grade.  The plot moves quickly and keeps the kids engaged.  The kids love the ridiculous words Dahl creates and practically fall out of their seat when I read about Whizz Pop juice and whizzpopping. From a teacher perspective the book is a great way to showcase compassion, acceptance, honesty, and team work.  Simply put, this classic can't be beat!

  1. I love this book as well. I have to admit though, that my voice got tired from trying to make different voices for the characters. There is so much dialog!! Enjoy sharing!

  2. Sounds like so much fun for someone like me! I haven't read this book for years and never as a read-aloud. I certainly have it, though. Maybe I will read it next! :)

  4. This is a great read-aloud! I would use it this year, but our 3rd grade teachers beat us to it! They know a good book when they see it!
You gave me a great idea for my next blog post though! (First read-aloud!) Thanks for the inspiration!
