Life Lately and New House!

Hello Bloggy World!  I'm bbbbaaaacckkk!!  Well, sort of.  I hope you all had a terrific 4th of July!

As you know, we moved on Sunday and it was a fiasco as most moves are.  I'll just give you the highlights:  movers were three hours late, movers were more than slightly disgruntled from their previous job, movers weren't quite strong enough to lift some of my furniture (boy, was that scary to watch!), and then when we FINALLY got to my new house to unload (at 7:00 pm) there was a huge Texas thunderstorm that rolled in and started pelting us with rain (which obviously did not help the mood of the movers)!  I mean!  But, the day did finally end and we were finally home! And I convinced my husband that we are no longer U-haul movers.  Next time, we are getting the real deal.

Yes, the Time Warner cable guy came out on Monday, but did everything get installed correctly and work as soon as he left?!?  Of course not!  He spent three hours working on the install and I'm still out a phone and internet connnection, so I'm sitting at Starbucks desperatly trying to catch up on my life...I mean my online life.  Oh goodness, I sound like that girl in that Toyota Venza commercial.  Have you seen it?

Haha! That commercial makes me laugh every time.

So, besides unpacking I've been making multiple trips to Home Depot. I used to hate that store and now I find myself memorized by everything in it. I already starting painting my office.  Hip-hip-hooray! Well, the primer is up anyway. It took a couple of coats.  Who paints a small room navy blue?!?  It was a bit dark for my taste, but it won't be for long.  I'm excited to get that finished so I can unpack all my school stuff which will get rid of a TON of boxes.  And, Saturday is the big delivery day.  My new washer and dryer are coming and they are SOO PRETTY!!  I can't wait.

Being a new homeowner has sure been fun, but it is also a lot of work.  I even did yard work yesterday.  Now, since y'all don't know me very well, I should tell you that I NEVER do yard work. In fact, I avoid it. As a punishment in high school my mom told me to get the yard mowed, and I GOT the yard mowed.  I called, made an appointment, and payed for someone to come do it.  You see, she wasn't specific.  She didn't say I had to be the one to do it, she just said it needed to get done.  I took care of it.  I think I got off the hook for ingenuity.  And...that has basically been my approach to yard work since.

I promise to get back to teaching ideas, lessons, and what-not soon.  Fiction Friday is on the books for tomorrow, so I hope y'all are ready to link up.  We had a much bigger response last week and I loved it! Please keep linking up and sharing your favorite books, new or old.

Till then, I'm off to... you guessed it...The Home Depot.

Everyone has been telling me to take things slow.  This is hard for me (I'm a nester), but I'm embracing this new mantra and taking things one day at time. Any other new advice for the new homeowner? I'd love some nuggets of wisdom or quick tips you may have learned the hard way.  Comment below!!

  2. Congrats on your new home! Every DIY project takes about twice as long as you expect it to, so don't bite off more than you can chew. Also, it's a lot easier to tear something down than it is to put it back together. I learned this the hard way. We wanted new doors and trim and I wanted to rip it all down so I could start painting the rooms. My hubby asked me not to because he was redoing a bathroom, but I did it anyway because I'm stubborn. Well, let me just say we went almost a year with not being able to have anyone over because we had no doors on our bathrooms and our house looked horrible! But eventually it all gets done and then it is YOUR home and you will love everything about it. Good luck!

  6. Oh you had me laugh out load at that one! We must be kindred spirits you and I. I DESPISED Home Depot until we purchased our first house almost two years ago. Now I can't get enough of it and make excuses for us to go, hee hee! I also avoided yard work like the plague, and my parents knew that if they ever wanted to make me miserable, all they had to do was make me work outside! lol Congrats on your new place, you will love home ownership! =)

  8. Congratulations on your new house! I also laugh at the Toyota Venza commercials! Believe me, you will go through a love-hate I love it as I'm starting out a project, but hate when I have to run back to get other items that I either forgot to buy, or need to fix a problem that I discovered! It usually ends well for Home Depot, though- how can you hate a store that makes your home look so nice?
